The Two Bearing Systems in Built-in Spindles

In the precision architecture of a high-end built-in spindle (motorized spindle), there are typically two categories of bearings: one set responsible for carrying high-speed rotation—angular contact ball bearings; and the other, the focus of this article—the linear ball bearing (Ball Retainer / precision ball cage).

Although less widely recognized than angular contact ball bearings, the linear ball bearing plays a pivotal role in enhancing spindle running stability and machining precision. The T-SENSE linear ball bearing features the following three core technical advantages, making it an indispensable component in the next generation of built-in spindles.

Three Core Technical Advantages

1. Eliminate Thermal Expansion Stress, Resolve Stick-Slip Phenomena

Heat generated during high-speed spindle operation causes the spindle shaft to elongate (thermal expansion). When the rear floating end uses conventional sliding fit, excessive friction often leads to stick-slip phenomena, causing preload drift or vibration. T-SENSE converts "sliding" into "rolling," ensuring smooth displacement of the spindle shaft during thermal expansion and maintaining axial preload stability.

2. Enhance Radial Rigidity and Concentricity

Compared to traditional clearance fits, linear ball bearings—especially preloaded configurations—provide stronger support, enabling ultra-high-precision positioning between the spindle shaft and housing, significantly reducing radial run-out at high speeds and ensuring superior machined surface quality.

3. Suppress Vibration and Secondary Heat Buildup

Ultra-low axial movement resistance effectively reduces secondary heat generation caused by friction. This is critical for maintaining long-term machining stability and, in particular, ensuring Z-axis positioning accuracy—while also extending the overall service life of the spindle.

About T-SENSE: Over Half a Century of Precision Technology Heritage

T-SENSE TECHNOLOGY's technical roots can be traced back to 1978. At that time, our parent company team began manufacturing similar core components as an OEM for renowned Japanese manufacturers. Building upon decades of accumulated Japanese-grade craftsmanship, T-SENSE was formally established with a commitment to serving the global high-end machine tool market.

Drawing on decades of precision manufacturing expertise, T-SENSE linear ball bearings have been supplied long-term to benchmark international clients in Germany, Italy, the United States, and South Korea, including the globally recognized Doosan (DN Solutions). In the Taiwan market, we are also long-standing partners of leading spindle and control system manufacturers such as Theta and TWSpindle.
